Odisha allocates ₹1,000 crore relief package for flood-affected districts

The Odisha administration has rolled out a ₹1,000-crore relief and rehabilitation package to address the humanitarian crisis triggered by widespread flooding in the state. The disaster has impacted approximately 9.4 lakh people spread across six districts, officials confirmed on Monday.

In a swift response to the calamity, authorities have already evacuated more than 3.7 lakh residents from flood-prone areas to designated safer locations. Emergency operations have been scaled up to prevent further loss of life and property, with rescue teams deployed across affected regions.

The Chief Minister indicated that the initial relief package represents an immediate intervention, with provisions for additional funding contingent upon a comprehensive damage assessment. State officials are conducting detailed surveys across affected districts to evaluate the full extent of infrastructure damage, agricultural losses, and other economic impacts.

The ₹1,000-crore allocation will be directed toward urgent relief measures, including temporary shelter, food supplies, drinking water, and medical assistance for displaced families. Rehabilitation efforts will subsequently focus on restoring damaged infrastructure and supporting farmers whose crops and livestock have been affected by the deluge.
