Odisha plans semiconductor hub as electronics investments surge

Odisha is moving to establish itself as a major semiconductor and electronics manufacturing destination with the proposed development of a Silicon Valley-style industrial park at Naraj. The 870-acre facility is designed to create an integrated ecosystem spanning semiconductor manufacturing, electronics assembly, and information technology services.

The state has already received investment proposals exceeding ₹23,600 crore for the project, signaling strong industry interest in the proposed hub. The development reflects Odisha's broader strategy to diversify its economy beyond traditional sectors and capitalize on India's growing semiconductor ambitions.

The Naraj facility is expected to attract major players in the semiconductor and electronics sectors, leveraging the state's improving infrastructure and business-friendly policies. The hub's integrated approach—combining manufacturing, research, and technology services—is intended to create employment opportunities and establish supporting supply chains across the region.

The proposal comes as India increasingly seeks to reduce dependence on imported semiconductors and electronics components, with several states competing to attract major semiconductor investments. Odisha's initiative adds to the country's expanding chip manufacturing capacity and reflects the central government's push to build domestic semiconductor capabilities.
