State authorities in Odisha have announced a large-scale evacuation operation as Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab advances toward the coast. Rajesh Pravakar Patil, the state's Special Relief Commissioner, briefed media on the precautionary measures being implemented across the vulnerable districts.
The cyclonic system was moving at approximately 22 kilometers per hour as of the latest update. Officials have identified eight districts requiring evacuation, with approximately 48,000 residents being relocated to safer locations ahead of the storm's arrival.
Malkangiri district is expected to face direct impact as Cyclone Arnab crosses the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts before moving into Odisha. The timing of the evacuation operation is intended to ensure residents are moved to designated shelters well in advance of the system making landfall.
State disaster management teams have been mobilized across affected districts to coordinate the evacuation process. Authorities are working to ensure adequate provisions and shelter facilities are available for displaced residents during the emergency period.
Cyclone preparedness protocols have been activated across coastal and inland areas, with the state maintaining readiness for potential flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage in the storm's path.
