Odisha to develop 870-acre tech hub for semiconductors and IT

The Odisha government is moving forward with plans to establish a sprawling 870-acre technology hub in the Naraj area of Cuttack, positioning the state as a destination for semiconductor and IT sector investments. The proposed development aims to replicate the success model of established tech corridors while leveraging the region's infrastructure and proximity to major cities.

According to Chief Minister's office, the ambitious project has already generated significant investor interest, with proposals totalling approximately Rs 23,600 crore received so far. The initiatives span both semiconductor manufacturing and information technology services, reflecting the state's efforts to diversify its industrial base beyond traditional sectors.

The employment potential of the hub is projected at 6,100 jobs, offering opportunities across skilled and semi-skilled categories. These positions are expected to span manufacturing, research and development, and technology services roles, contributing to employment generation in the region.

The development comes as India increasingly focuses on building domestic semiconductor capabilities and reducing dependence on imports. Several states are competing to attract such investments, with Odisha's initiative representing the state's strategic push to position itself as a competitive destination for high-value manufacturing and technology sector growth.
