The two pilots, who were traveling as deadheading crew on the aircraft, intervened after the plane underwent what witnesses described as a dramatic and frightening plunge. FlyDubai has since referred to them only as on-duty crew members traveling on the flight, without elaborating on their identities or providing further details about their intervention.
Passengers aboard the flight have provided some of the most detailed accounts of the incident. Daniel Schlichter, seated in the second row, described the situation as "one of the miracles," noting the fortuitous circumstances that placed trained pilots on the aircraft.
"Not every flight carries two extra pilots," Schlichter told media outlets. "In this case, they were there because they were supposed to return the plane from Tel Aviv to Dubai. This is the only reason they were positioned to help." The practice of ferrying crew members on flights to position them for subsequent operations is known in aviation as deadheading.
The exact nature of the aircraft malfunction and the specific actions taken by the crew members to stabilize the plane have not been fully disclosed by the airline. The reasons for FlyDubai's decision to withhold the crew members' identities remain unclear.
