MANILA — The Department of Transportation led an inspection of the North-South Commuter railway (NSCR) system on Tuesday, with lawmakers and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) joining the assessment of the critical infrastructure project.
The delegation visited major operational hubs of the NSCR during the inspection, including the Main Operations Centre and other essential facilities supporting the railway's functions. The tour provided stakeholders an opportunity to evaluate progress on the system that aims to connect Manila's northern and southern regions.
JICA has been instrumental in supporting the NSCR project through technical assistance and financing. The joint inspection underscores the collaborative nature of the development effort, which involves Philippine government agencies, legislators, and international development partners working toward the railway system's completion.
The North-South Commuter railway is expected to significantly enhance public transportation capacity in the greater Manila area once fully operational, easing congestion on major thoroughfares and providing commuters with an efficient alternative to road-based travel.
