Oil marketing stocks emerged as top gainers on the Indian stock market as crude prices cooled below the $95 per barrel mark. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited led the rally among OMCs, with shares advancing nearly 7 per cent in intraday trading. The sector-wide gains reflected investor optimism over lower feedstock costs and improved downstream margins for petroleum retailers.
Beyond the energy sector, the broader market rally extended to airlines and manufacturers dependent on oil-linked inputs. IndiGo and other aviation stocks posted significant gains, buoyed by prospects of reduced aviation fuel costs. Paint manufacturers and tyre makers also climbed up to 7 per cent, capitalizing on expectations of lower raw material expenses.
The rally underscores the interconnected nature of commodity price movements across Indian equities. As crude oil remains a critical input for fuel, lubricants, and petrochemical derivatives, price moderation typically translates into margin expansion for downstream players. Market participants attribute the correction in global oil prices to a combination of factors including demand concerns and adequate supply conditions.
Analysts noted that sustained crude prices below current levels could provide sustained tailwinds for the broader market, particularly sectors with high commodity exposure. However, they cautioned that global energy markets remain vulnerable to geopolitical developments and production decisions by major oil-producing nations.
