The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced Ajit Ojha as the new chief selector, marking a transition in the organisation's selection committee leadership. Ojha's appointment comes after Ajit Agarkar's departure from the role.
The BCCI extended considerable praise for Agarkar's contributions during his time as chief selector. Since assuming the position in July 2023, Agarkar presided over a period of exceptional achievement for Indian cricket across multiple formats and tournaments.
During Agarkar's tenure, the Indian team secured three ICC trophies, claimed victories in two Asia Cup tournaments, and captured gold medals in consecutive Asian Games competitions. These achievements underscored the success of the selection policies implemented during his watch.
Powar has been entrusted with significant additional responsibilities as part of the BCCI's restructuring of its cricket operations. The appointments reflect the board's ongoing efforts to strengthen the organisational framework overseeing India's national cricket programmes.
