Ola Electric unveils S1Z scooter with domestic battery technology

Ola Electric has introduced the S1Z, a mass-market electric scooter equipped with indigenously developed lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. The vehicle is positioned at an entry-level price point of ₹79,999, targeting India's cost-conscious EV consumers seeking affordable two-wheeler options.

The S1Z is offered in two battery variants: a 3.1 kWh option and a larger 5.1 kWh configuration. The company claims the scooter can deliver a maximum range of 301 km on a single charge under Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) testing conditions, depending on the battery variant selected.

The use of domestically produced LFP cells represents a significant development for Ola Electric, reducing dependence on imported battery technology and potentially lowering overall manufacturing costs. LFP batteries are known for their thermal stability and longer lifecycle compared to conventional lithium-ion alternatives.

Deliveries of the S1Z are scheduled to commence in December 2026, allowing the company time to scale production capacity. The launch reflects the intensifying competition in India's electric two-wheeler segment as manufacturers compete for market share in a rapidly growing category.
