Olongapo battles monsoon-fueled flooding and erosion across city

OLONGAPO CITY — Heavy rainfall from the ongoing southwest monsoon has created hazardous conditions throughout Olongapo City, with flooding and soil erosion affecting multiple barangays since Friday, August 28. The continuous downpour has rendered several major roads impassable, disrupting transportation and commerce across the city.

Residents in at least one riverside barangay have been forced to evacuate due to rising water levels and unstable ground conditions. The heavy rains have heightened concerns about the structural integrity of infrastructure in low-lying areas vulnerable to water accumulation.

Minor soil erosion incidents were documented in Barangay Kalaklan at approximately 1:30 p.m., with loose rocks scattered across a major thoroughfare. Local authorities have undertaken measures to clear debris and restore road access where possible.

The monsoon season typically brings increased precipitation to the region, but the intensity and duration of this year's rains have compounded existing drainage challenges.
