Olongapo City government on Tuesday halted afternoon classes at all educational levels as inclement weather and heavy rains blanketed the area. Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. issued a public advisory announcing the suspension, acknowledging the delayed notification to the public.
The mayor explained that the decision to suspend afternoon sessions was based on available weather information at the time. Schools in the city had been advised earlier to independently assess prevailing conditions in their respective areas and make appropriate decisions regarding class schedules.
The suspension affected students from elementary through tertiary levels. Officials did not specify whether the suspension would extend beyond Tuesday or if classes would resume Wednesday pending weather improvements.
The measure was taken as a precautionary step to ensure the safety of students and school personnel during the period of heavy rainfall affecting the Zambales city.
