Olympic gymnast Barbosu hit with two-year doping ban
Romania's Ana Maria Barbosu has been suspended for two years after committing three whereabouts failures under international anti-doping regulations. The Court of Arbitration for Sport's Anti-Doping Division handed down the ruling this week.

The Olympic medallist was found to have breached anti-doping protocols by failing to provide her location information on three separate occasions, a requirement mandated by the World Anti-Doping Agency for athletes in tested pools.
Under WADA rules, athletes must notify anti-doping authorities of their whereabouts to enable out-of-competition testing. Three missed or failed whereabouts submissions within a 12-month period constitute an anti-doping violation.
Barbosu's two-year suspension is effective immediately, the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed. The ban will prevent the gymnast from competing in international events during the sanction period.
The case adds to ongoing concerns about compliance with anti-doping whereabouts requirements across elite sports. Athletes found to have violated these protocols face significant career consequences, regardless of whether performance-enhancing substances were detected.
