Om Prakash Mathur takes oath as Kerala's 29th Governor

Om Prakash Mathur formally assumed office as Kerala's 29th Governor following the ceremonial oath-taking administered by Kerala High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen. The swearing-in ceremony marked the transition of the gubernatorial position from his predecessor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

As Governor, Mathur will assume the role of the state's constitutional head and oversee key administrative functions including the assent to legislative bills, appointment of senior officials, and ceremonial duties. The Governor's office plays a crucial liaison role between the state government and the central administration.

Mathur's appointment comes as part of the periodic rotation of governors across Indian states by the central government. The Kerala Governorship is among the significant positions within the Indian federal structure, given the state's political prominence and administrative complexity.

The new Governor will preside over state functions and serve as Chancellor of Kerala's universities during his tenure. His office will coordinate with the state government led by the Chief Minister on matters of governance and constitutional importance.
