Ombudsman: 35 Flood Control Cases Now in Court
The Office of the Ombudsman has filed 35 cases related to questionable flood control projects in various courts, with the majority heading to the Sandiganbayan. The office is simultaneously investigating 166 additional cases in the preliminary investigation stage.

MANILA – Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that 35 cases involving irregularities in flood control projects have been filed before the courts, marking significant progress in the investigation of alleged anomalies in the sector.
Of the cases filed, 31 have been submitted to the Sandiganbayan, the anti-graft court, while four are being handled by regional trial courts, Remulla said. The distribution reflects the gravity and scope of the issues being investigated.
Beyond the cases already in court, the Ombudsman's office continues to examine 166 additional cases in the preliminary investigation phase. These investigations are expected to yield further cases as the office completes its fact-finding and determination of probable cause.
The large number of cases indicates widespread concerns about the implementation and management of flood control infrastructure projects across the country. The Ombudsman's aggressive pursuit of these cases underscores the government's commitment to addressing alleged misuse of public funds in disaster mitigation initiatives.
