Ombudsman gains direct access to government procurement data

MANILA — The anti-graft body's investigation capabilities have been strengthened following the signing of a Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) between the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Monday.

Under the new arrangement, the Ombudsman can now directly access government procurement records maintained through PhilGEPS, the government's electronic procurement system. This direct connectivity eliminates delays previously encountered when requesting procurement data through formal channels.

The streamlined access is expected to accelerate the Ombudsman's ability to investigate potential corruption in government contracting and procurement activities. Officials view the measure as a significant step toward preventing fraudulent transactions and misconduct in public spending.

The agreement represents increased institutional coordination aimed at fortifying anti-corruption efforts across the government. By enabling real-time access to procurement information, the Ombudsman can more efficiently cross-reference suspicious transactions and identify patterns of irregularity that may warrant formal charges.
