Ombudsman mulls plunder case against recanting bodyguards of ex-lawmaker Co

MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman is considering filing a plunder complaint against four former bodyguards of ex-Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co who retracted their initial statements, according to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.
Clavano disclosed on Tuesday that investigators are exploring the possibility of including the recanting bodyguards in the case being built against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The move reflects concern that the withdrawal of testimony could constitute obstruction or fabrication of evidence.
The four bodyguards were among 18 individuals who originally came forward identifying themselves as Co's former security detail. Their decision to recant raises questions about the circumstances surrounding their change of account, prompting authorities to escalate their investigation.
