Ombudsman opens preliminary probe into governor, ex-lawmaker over contracts

The Office of the Ombudsman has initiated preliminary investigation proceedings against Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel and former Pampanga Representative Aurelio Dong Gonzales Jr., according to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano on Tuesday.

The investigation centers on alleged links between the officials and construction firms that obtained Public Works and Highways Department contracts while they held office. The preliminary inquiry phase allows the Ombudsman to gather evidence and determine whether there is sufficient basis to proceed with formal charges.
