MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman is continuing its investigation into allegations against former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and two other government officials linked to a suspected kickback scheme, according to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.

Clavano said the Ombudsman's office is gathering additional evidence in connection with the case, which stems from testimony provided by a state witness. The investigation involves Bersamin, his grandnephew, and former Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin of the Presidential Legislative office, among others.

The Ombudsman did not specify the timeframe for completing its evidence collection or when charges might be filed. The investigation into the alleged kickback scheme remains ongoing as prosecutors work to build their case against the accused officials.

The probe comes as part of continued efforts by the Ombudsman's office to investigate corruption allegations involving high-ranking government personnel. Further details on the specific nature of the alleged scheme were not disclosed.
