CALASIAO, PANGASINAN—Eight senior officials of Urdaneta City have been dismissed from government service by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with their response to a suspension order issued against the city's top two executives.
The officials subject to dismissal include Mayor Julio "Rammy" Parayno III, Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno, and six city councilors. The consolidated decision was dated April 15 and received by city officials in Urdaneta.
The Ombudsman's ruling stems from the officials' actions taken following the suspension order against Parayno and the vice mayor. The decision represents a significant development in the governance of the Pangasinan city, which has approximately 75,000 residents.
The dismissal order effectively removes the affected officials from their positions and bars them from holding public office as a consequence of the Ombudsman's findings. City government operations are expected to be impacted as the removals include much of the city's current leadership structure.
