Remulla announced the significant legal action as he outlined his office's accomplishments since taking the helm. The cases represent a comprehensive investigation into irregularities affecting the country's flood management systems.

Of the 39 flood control cases, 35 have been filed before the Sandiganbayan, the country's anti-corruption court, while four cases were pursued through other legal channels. The multi-pronged approach demonstrates the scope of the investigation into what has become a major governance issue.

The flood control scandal has drawn considerable public attention due to its implications for disaster preparedness and public safety. The filing of these cases underscores the Ombudsman's commitment to holding officials accountable for lapses in the management of critical infrastructure.

The annual report marks Remulla's first comprehensive accounting of his office's work since assuming the position of Ombudsman. The flood control cases represent one of several major investigations being pursued by the office as it works to address institutional corruption and mismanagement across the government.
