MANILA, Philippines – Officials from the Office of the Ombudsman and the Securities and Exchange Commission are scheduled to testify before the Senate impeachment court on Tuesday in the ongoing trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The testimony marks the 25th day of proceedings as senators examine allegations centered on unexplained wealth, discrepancies in Duterte's Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN), and claims she failed to divest from prohibited business interests.
The impeachment trial, which began earlier this year, has focused on financial accountability questions surrounding the Vice President's personal wealth accumulation and compliance with constitutional requirements for public officials to disclose assets and divest from business concerns that may create conflicts of interest.
The participation of the Ombudsman's office and SEC signals the court's intent to scrutinize official records and regulatory filings as it evaluates the charges brought against Duterte.
