MANILA—The Office of the Ombudsman on Thursday cautioned government officials against the misuse of gasoline intended for official vehicles, emphasizing that such violations carry serious consequences.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement that diverting government fuel for private use represents a breach of public trust. The warning comes after a local official was recently terminated over such misconduct.
"Acts like this destroy the image of the government," Remulla said, underscoring the broader implications of fuel misappropriation beyond the individual officer involved.
The Ombudsman's cautionary message underscores ongoing efforts to enforce accountability and prevent the misuse of public resources. Officials who engage in similar conduct face disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from service.
