OncoStem to expand breast cancer risk testing through hospital kits

OncoStem is preparing to significantly expand access to its breast cancer genetic risk testing by introducing hospital-use kits that can be deployed across medical facilities. The decentralised model represents a shift from the company's current centralised testing approach, allowing more patients to undergo screening at their local healthcare centres rather than at dedicated laboratories.

Under the new strategy, OncoStem expects to at least double its annual testing volume to approximately 6,000 cases from the current 3,000. The kit-based approach is designed to reduce operational barriers and make the testing process more convenient for both patients and healthcare providers across India.

Genetic testing for breast cancer risk has become increasingly important for identifying individuals at higher risk of developing the disease, enabling early intervention and preventive measures. By moving towards a distributed testing model, OncoStem aims to democratise access to such diagnostic tools, particularly in regions where centralised laboratory facilities may be geographically distant or inaccessible.

The company's expansion reflects broader industry trends towards decentralised diagnostics, which streamline workflows and reduce turnaround times. The hospital-use kits are expected to be compatible with standard laboratory infrastructure, minimising additional investment requirements for healthcare facilities looking to offer the service.
