One-third of Singapore singles open to state-backed dating platform

Findings from a recent survey indicate that approximately one-third of Singaporean singles would be inclined to use FirstDate, a dating platform developed by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), should they meet the eligibility criteria. The willingness to engage with such a service reflects broader public support for state-facilitated matchmaking initiatives.

Beyond those directly interested in using the platform, the survey found more expansive backing for the concept itself. Forty-four per cent of Singaporeans surveyed expressed support for government-backed matchmaking services, underscoring public confidence in state involvement in addressing the nation's persistent singlehood challenges.

The results suggest a shift in social attitudes toward digital dating solutions, particularly when backed by official institutions. Government-facilitated matchmaking aligns with Singapore's broader policy efforts to address demographic concerns and support residents in forming relationships.

The survey data comes as authorities continue exploring innovative approaches to encourage partnership formation among the city-state's growing single population, balancing traditional social interventions with modern technological solutions.
