Opposition leaders conclude third day of poll commission protest at Rajghat

New Delhi — Opposition leaders wrapped up their third day of demonstrations against the Election Commission at Rajghat on Thursday, marking an escalation in their ongoing challenge to the poll body's recent decisions.

The protest saw participation from senior Congress figures Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, along with opposition MPs from various parties. The show of strength underscored the multi-party nature of the opposition's grievances with the Election Commission.

Anticipating the opposition's visit to the memorial site, Delhi Police had substantially increased security presence in the area surrounding Rajghat. The enhanced measures appeared aimed at managing crowd control and maintaining order during the demonstration.

All participating opposition MPs departed Rajghat by late evening, concluding the day's proceedings. The opposition has signaled that a major demonstration, described as 'Hallabol' or a show of strength, is being prepared for Friday, suggesting further escalation in the coming days.

The repeated demonstrations represent the opposition's strategy to mount sustained pressure on the Election Commission over issues that have become contentious in recent weeks.
