Opposition leaders intensify Delhi protest, demand poll chief's removal

Opposition parties escalated their coordinated protest in Delhi on Wednesday, with senior leaders from the Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP) joining Congress president Mallikar Kharge for a symbolic show of unity during a lunch gathering. The demonstration marked the third consecutive day of the INDIA bloc's campaign against what opposition figures allege are widespread electoral irregularities, with protesters calling the phenomenon 'vote chori' or vote theft.

The gathered leaders visited Rajghat, where they made public appeals for the government to exercise wisdom in addressing their concerns regarding the conduct of recent elections. Their presence at the memorial and subsequent joint meal signaled a consolidated effort to maintain pressure on the administration to respond to their demands.

Opposition representatives made clear their intention to sustain the protest movement until their core demand is met. The Chief Election Commissioner's removal remains the focal point of their campaign, with opposition figures contending that electoral management requires urgent intervention at the highest levels.

The demonstration highlighted the INDIA bloc's ability to maintain internal cohesion on a critical issue, bringing together parties with sometimes divergent political interests. The participation of multiple regional and national opposition parties suggested that concerns about electoral integrity have transcended traditional factional divides within India's opposition spectrum.
