CALAPAN CITY — The Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) declared a red alert for the region's power grid on September 7, citing concerns over a projected electricity supply deficit. However, no interruptions to power service materialized as the actual supply conditions proved more favorable than forecasted.
The red alert status, the highest warning level in power system operations, is typically implemented when a utility anticipates it may be unable to meet peak demand. ORMECO's decision reflected caution in managing potential constraints on the grid during peak consumption periods.
According to ORMECO General Manager Humphrey Dolor, the improved power supply situation meant the cooperative could maintain stable operations throughout the day without resorting to rotating blackouts or load shedding measures.
