CALAPAN CITY — The Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ORMECO) has issued an urgent appeal to its power suppliers to restore full contracted capacity amid growing concerns over supply deficits in the province.
In an advisory issued this week, ORMECO cautioned that failure to address the power generation shortfall may necessitate manual load dropping as early as Saturday, October 10. The cooperative said the province's contracted capacity has fallen short of demand, creating a critical situation that could impact customers across Oriental Mindoro.
Load dropping, a controlled power reduction measure, is typically implemented when demand outpaces available supply. The measure would affect businesses and households across the province on a rotating basis to prevent system collapse.
OREMEO did not specify the exact magnitude of the supply shortfall or identify which power suppliers were failing to meet their contractual obligations. The cooperative urged all contracted generators to prioritize restoration efforts to avert disruptions to the province's power supply.
