Oriental Mindoro power rates fall P1.73/kWh in August relief

CALAPAN CITY — Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) has cut electricity rates by P1.7281 per kilowatt-hour for August, providing relief to consumers across the province. The rate reduction reflects improvements in the region's power supply chain, with lower generation costs and reduced dependency on expensive emergency power providers contributing to the decrease.

The cooperative attributed the favorable adjustment to multiple factors enhancing the province's energy portfolio. A marked increase in renewable energy generation has played a crucial role in bringing down overall power costs, while simultaneous reductions in reliance on emergency power providers has further improved the rates.

The announcement, made Friday, Aug. 21, represents a substantial decrease compared to June rates, signaling improved efficiency in Ormeco's power procurement and distribution operations.
