CALAPAN CITY — Oriental Mindoro's provincial health system is mobilizing resources to address a growing number of flu-like illness cases being reported across the region, according to provincial health officials.
Dr. Cielo Ante, the Provincial Health Officer, confirmed the upward trajectory in cases, noting that healthcare facilities are intensifying their readiness measures. The rise in respiratory illness cases comes as the province faces anticipated heat stress from the El Niño weather pattern, which typically brings elevated temperatures and changed precipitation patterns to the Philippines.
Public health facilities throughout the province have begun strengthening their capacity to manage both the surge in flu-like illnesses and the expected increase in heat-related medical cases. Officials stressed the importance of monitoring trends and ensuring adequate medical supplies and personnel at health centers.
The provincial health office urged residents to observe preventive measures including proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and seeking prompt medical attention when experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, and body aches. Residents are also advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours as El Niño conditions persist.
