CALAPAN CITY – Chronic power and water shortages are significantly hampering tourism development in Oriental Mindoro, according to findings presented during the 2026 Local Tourism Product and Market Survey unveiled at the Oriental Mindoro Heritage Museum on September 2.
The survey highlights how inadequate utility services are creating operational bottlenecks for hospitality and tourism-related businesses throughout the province. Hotel operators, resort owners, and tourism service providers have reported mounting difficulties in maintaining consistent service quality for guests, with supply interruptions disrupting accommodation facilities and water-dependent amenities.
Industry stakeholders view the infrastructure deficiencies as a critical barrier to realizing the region's substantial tourism potential. The province has positioned itself as a major destination for domestic and international travelers, with the sector representing significant economic value for local communities.
Local government units and tourism officials are expected to prioritize infrastructure improvements as part of broader development initiatives.
