Oriental Mindoro town restricts live hog imports to combat African Swine Fever
Naujan municipality in Oriental Mindoro has implemented a temporary ban on live hog imports to shield local swine producers from African Swine Fever. The measure took effect following a municipal order signed late last month.

The local government of Naujan has moved to protect its swine industry by prohibiting the entry of live hogs into the municipality, effective immediately under Municipal Executive Order No. 26-040. Mayor Henry Joel Teves signed the directive on September 29, establishing restrictions that apply to live hogs intended for commercial sale within the jurisdiction.
The ban represents a precautionary measure aimed at preventing the spread of African Swine Fever, a highly contagious viral disease that has devastated swine operations across the Philippines and neighboring countries. Naujan officials determined that controlling the movement of live animals across municipal boundaries would significantly reduce disease transmission risks to local herd populations.
The temporary restriction is part of broader biosecurity protocols being adopted by local government units across the country to maintain the viability of their agricultural sectors. Oriental Mindoro, a major livestock-producing province, has increasingly implemented similar safeguards as ASF cases continue to emerge in nearby regions.
The municipal government has not indicated when the ban may be lifted or what conditions would need to be met for imports to resume. Hog raisers in the municipality are encouraged to source animals through approved domestic channels while the restriction remains in effect.
