Over 1,100 candidates to win unopposed in Tripura village polls
The Tripura State Election Commission has confirmed that 1,169 candidates will be elected unopposed to village committee positions, as polling will not be held for more than a quarter of available seats across the northeastern state.

Polling will not take place in 1,169 of the 4,597 seats distributed across 587 village committees in Tripura, according to an announcement by the State Election Commission. The unopposed victories result from only single nominations being filed for these positions, eliminating the need for electoral contests. This represents approximately one-third of all village committee seats in the state where elections are currently underway. The commission's decision reflects a significant portion of village-level representatives being elected through default rather than competitive polling. The remaining seats will proceed to polling, where multiple candidates have filed nominations for the same positions, ensuring competitive electoral contests across the majority of Tripura's village committees.
