OLONGAPO CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Luzon has successfully planted over 1,200 bamboo culms at the Talaytay Protected Landscape in the Aurora municipality of Dinalungan, marking a significant step in the agency's forest restoration efforts.

The planting initiative, carried out under the National Greening Program framework, targets the rehabilitation of degraded forest areas within the protected landscape. Bamboo species were selected for the project due to their rapid growth characteristics and ecological benefits in supporting forest recovery and watershed protection.

The DENR announced the completion of the planting drive on Thursday, highlighting the project as part of broader environmental management activities in the Central Luzon region. The Talaytay Protected Landscape, which spans significant forest cover in Aurora, has faced degradation in recent years, making restoration efforts increasingly critical for ecosystem preservation.

Environmental officials emphasized that the reforestation work contributes to the government's commitment to expanding forest coverage and combating deforestation in the region. The bamboo plantings are expected to establish a foundation for long-term forest recovery while also providing potential economic and ecological benefits to local communities in the coming years.
