TUGUNAN — More than 1,300 families have fled their residences following an armed confrontation in Tugunan town, located within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), authorities reported Saturday.

The clash erupted at dawn between military personnel and members of an armed group, prompting the rapid evacuation of residents from the affected area. The Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency response unit documented at least 1,346 displaced families in its initial situation report, released on Saturday evening.

Tugunan is situated within the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro region, a designation covering certain municipalities where the Bangsamoro government exercises administrative jurisdiction. The displacement represents a significant humanitarian challenge for local authorities already managing multiple crises in the conflict-prone region.

Further details regarding the nature of the skirmish, casualty figures, and ongoing relief operations were not immediately available. The regional government has yet to issue additional updates on the situation or timeline for residents' return.
