Over 1,800 documents to be marked in VP Duterte wealth case

MANILA — Prosecutors in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment case have prepared over 1,800 documents for marking as they advance their case on alleged unexplained wealth, according to Rep. Chel Diokno, the lead prosecutor handling the second impeachment article.

The documents, which include bank records and insurance documents obtained through court-issued subpoenas, will be formally marked during proceedings as prosecutors lay the groundwork to present their evidence during the trial. The marking process is a standard procedural step that establishes the documents as official exhibits in the case.

Diokno informed the court of the planned documentation marking on Tuesday as the impeachment trial continues. The second article of impeachment against Duterte focuses on accusations of unexplained wealth, requiring prosecutors to demonstrate financial discrepancies or assets that cannot be adequately accounted for.

The case marks a significant legal challenge for the Vice President, who has previously denied wrongdoing. The proceedings are expected to continue as both prosecution and defense prepare their respective arguments and evidence presentations.
