Over 100 foreign trekkers rescued after flash floods hit Nepal's Gorkha

Rescue operations were underway in Nepal's Gorkha district after flash floods swept through the region, leaving over 100 foreign trekkers stranded and causing significant infrastructure damage. The flooding destroyed residential structures, swept away bridges and damaged critical sections of the Manaslu trekking trail, one of Nepal's most frequented high-altitude routes.

Authorities deployed rescue teams to assist the stranded trekkers, many of whom were unable to continue their journeys along the damaged trail. The flooding highlighted the vulnerability of remote mountain regions to natural disasters during heavy rainfall seasons, when flash floods pose serious risks to both residents and tourists.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek, which circumnavigates the 8,163-meter Manaslu peak in the Himalayas, attracts thousands of international visitors annually. The destruction of sections of the trail and related infrastructure presents challenges for the local economy, which depends significantly on trekking tourism.

Nepal's disaster management authorities have not yet released preliminary assessments of total damage or confirmed casualty figures. The incident underscores the importance of enhanced early warning systems and infrastructure resilience in mountainous regions vulnerable to flooding.
