The evacuation was prompted by volcanic activity at Taal Volcano, one of the Philippines' most active and closely monitored volcanoes. The Philippine Coast Guard reported the displacement of residents on Friday morning, citing data compiled at evacuation centers in the affected area.
According to initial reports, the phreatomagmatic eruption—characterized by interactions between magma and water—occurred Thursday evening, prompting local authorities to implement precautionary evacuation measures. The 107 evacuees represent 29 households from the municipality of Agoncillo in Batangas province, a region frequently affected by volcanic activity from Taal.
Evacuation centers have been activated to provide shelter and assistance to displaced families. Authorities continue to monitor the volcano's activity and are prepared to implement additional measures should conditions warrant further action. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology regularly updates the status of volcanic activity in the region to ensure public safety.
