More than 135 persons deprived of liberty housed at the Naga City District Jail Male Dormitory have completed registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The registration initiative took place on October 29 and 30, with staff from the Philippine Statistics Authority-Camarines Sur conducting the enrollment process on-site at the correctional facility. The move ensures that incarcerated individuals have access to the government-issued national identification document.
The PhilSys is a unified identification system that consolidates various government-issued IDs into a single credential. Officials said the registration drive represents efforts to extend government services to vulnerable and marginalized populations, including those in custody.
The BJMP has been working to facilitate access to essential services for inmates, recognizing that many persons deprived of liberty lack proper identification documents. The successful completion of registrations at the Naga City facility is expected to streamline access to government benefits and services for the participating inmates.
