Over 18,000 villages gain Adarsh Gram status under PM initiative

The Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PM-AJAY) has made significant progress in its mission to transform villages into model settlements, with over 18,000 communities now designated as Adarsh Grams. The initiative focuses on developing infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities in participating villages to improve quality of life for rural populations.

As part of the broader development agenda, 785 student hostels have been completed under the programme, providing improved accommodation facilities for students in rural areas. These hostels are intended to enhance access to education by removing barriers related to housing and travel for students from remote villages.

The Adarsh Gram designation encompasses various development criteria including improved water supply, sanitation, electricity, healthcare facilities, and educational infrastructure. Villages selected under the scheme receive support for implementing comprehensive development plans tailored to local needs and priorities.

The programme represents a continued government commitment to bridging rural-urban development gaps and ensuring that infrastructure improvements reach India's villages. Officials indicate that the initiative aims to create sustainable models of rural development that can be replicated across different regions and communities.
