Over 2,300 Islamic students enrol in Malaysia's vocational training programme

Malaysia's push to integrate vocational training with Islamic education has gained momentum, with enrolment figures demonstrating growing uptake among tahfiz students seeking alternative career pathways. The programme, which commenced in 2023, has seen 2,364 students from Quranic memorisation institutions register for TVET courses across various fields.

Of those enrolled, 900 tahfiz students have successfully completed their training and obtained the National Vocational Skills Certification (Sijil Kemahiran Pekerjaan Kebangsaan), meeting industry standards and enhancing their employment prospects. The certification represents a significant achievement in bridging traditional Islamic education with modern vocational competencies.

The initiative reflects Malaysia's broader strategy to diversify educational opportunities and address skills shortages in the workforce. By enabling tahfiz students to pursue recognised vocational qualifications, the programme provides pathways beyond traditional religious studies while maintaining their educational commitments.

The strong registration and certification numbers suggest that Islamic institutions and their students view vocational training as a complementary rather than competing educational option. Industry observers note that the combination of religious scholarship with technical skills positions graduates favourably in Malaysia's evolving employment landscape.
