MANILA — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced on Monday that over 200 personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection are undergoing investigation for their involvement in an alleged slot-selling operation targeting job applicants.
The scheme involved BFP staff members requesting payments from individuals seeking to join the agency in exchange for securing positions within the organization. Remulla, whose department oversees the BFP, characterized the practice as deeply entrenched misconduct affecting the institution from its foundational level.
The investigation marks a significant crackdown on internal corruption within one of the country's critical emergency response agencies. The BFP, responsible for fire prevention and suppression services nationwide, has faced scrutiny over personnel conduct in recent years.
