Over 25 killed in airstrikes near Yemen's capital, Houthis claim

At least 27 people have been killed and 36 wounded in airstrikes that struck the village of al-Shariya near Yemen's capital Sanaa on Saturday, according to a spokesman for the Houthi-controlled Health Ministry. Anees al-Asbahi told media outlets that the majority of casualties were women and children, with the death toll expected to climb as rescue operations continue in the affected area.

The Houthis have attributed the strikes to Saudi Arabia, though the kingdom's Information Ministry has not responded to requests for comment. Independent verification of the claims remains difficult given the fluid situation on the ground. The incident marks an escalation in Yemen's ongoing civil conflict, which has deteriorated sharply following the collapse of a yearslong ceasefire in recent months.

In response to Saturday's strikes and a deadly market attack in southwestern Yemen on Friday, Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said the group had launched retaliatory operations against Saudi Arabia. The statement underscores mounting tensions between the warring parties as fighting intensifies across multiple fronts in the conflict-ravaged nation.
