Over 26,000 foreign vehicles fitted with OBU ahead of ERP 2 launch
Singapore's Electronic Road Pricing system transitions to a new phase on January 1, with the majority of foreign-registered vehicles already equipped with the required On-Board Units. However, approximately 12,000 Singapore-registered vehicles have yet to complete the mandatory installation.

More than 26,000 foreign vehicles have voluntarily installed On-Board Units (OBU) in preparation for the switchover to the next-generation Electronic Road Pricing system, according to latest figures. The new ERP 2 system is set to commence operations on January 1, marking a significant upgrade to Singapore's congestion pricing infrastructure. All vehicles entering restricted zones will be required to carry functioning OBUs to facilitate the automated tolling mechanism. While the uptake among foreign-registered vehicles has been relatively robust, compliance remains incomplete within Singapore's domestic fleet. Approximately 12,000 locally-registered vehicles that are mandated to have OBUs installed by the January 1 deadline have not yet done so, raising questions about the implementation timeline. Authorities have previously emphasized the importance of timely installation to ensure seamless transition and avoid disruptions to road users. The system represents a technological advancement from the existing ERP infrastructure, with improved capabilities for monitoring and toll collection across designated expressways and arterial roads throughout the island.
