Over 3,200 forest offences logged in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar circle

Forest authorities in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district have documented 3,289 cases of forest offences spanning the period from 2010-11 onwards, according to official records. The cases encompass violations ranging from illegal logging to poaching and unauthorized grazing across the region's protected areas.

The M.M. Hills Wildlife Division emerged as the primary hotspot for violations, with 2,256 cases registered during this period. This accounts for nearly 69 percent of all forest offences in the circle, underscoring persistent challenges in wildlife protection within this division.

The BRT Tiger Reserve followed with 793 documented cases, while the Cauvery Wildlife Division recorded 240 cases. The distribution of violations across these zones reflects varying degrees of enforcement pressure and on-ground challenges faced by forest protection personnel.

The data underscores ongoing efforts by the forest department to combat illegal activities within protected zones. Officials continue to intensify patrols and surveillance measures across the Chamarajanagar circle to mitigate such offences and safeguard the region's forest resources and wildlife habitats.
