Over 300,000 flee intensifying Yemen conflict in two months

More than 300,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in western Yemen due to intensifying armed conflict, according to UN figures released on Thursday. The displacement represents one of the region's most significant humanitarian crises in recent months, with the overwhelming majority of those affected having left their communities within the last eight weeks.

The fighting pits Houthi forces against the internationally recognised government backed by a Saudi-led military coalition. The renewed violence has created acute pressure on already strained infrastructure and humanitarian services across Yemen's western provinces, which have seen years of conflict and displacement.

The mass exodus has exacerbated the humanitarian emergency in Yemen, where millions of civilians were already facing food insecurity and limited access to healthcare. Aid organisations have warned that displacement on this scale strains resources for shelter, clean water, and medical care in the country's conflict-affected regions.

The UN and international humanitarian agencies have called for urgent measures to protect displaced civilians and facilitate humanitarian assistance to affected areas. Regional governments and the international community continue to express concern over the deteriorating situation and its impact on the civilian population.
