Over 350 residents flee Benguet town as rains intensify flooding risks

BAGUIO CITY — Sixty-eight families totaling 351 people have voluntarily evacuated from their residences in Itogon, a municipality in Benguet province, as extended rainfall continues to pose serious safety hazards to communities throughout the area.

The evacuations were triggered by prolonged precipitation stemming from consecutive weather disturbances combined with the enhanced southwest monsoon system. According to available data, the weather situation has expanded its impact beyond those who have already left their homes, with a cumulative total of 227 families comprising 874 individuals reported as affected by the sustained rainfall across Itogon.

Local authorities have classified the evacuations as voluntary measures, indicating residents proactively chose to leave their homes amid rising flood and landslide risks.
