Over 5,000 police deployed across Zamboanga for Undas security

The Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9) has stationed the contingent of security troops and force multipliers throughout the region to oversee the peaceful conduct of Undas 2026 festivities. Police Brigadier General Elmer Ragay, PRO-9 Director, authorized the comprehensive security arrangement spanning both the Zamboanga Peninsula and Sulu province.

The heightened police presence during Undas is a standard precautionary measure implemented annually to manage large crowds expected at cemeteries and public spaces during the November holiday period. Security personnel will be positioned at key locations and along major thoroughfares to prevent criminal incidents and maintain traffic flow during the observance.

Authorities have coordinated with local government units and cemetery administrators to establish orderly access routes and implement safety protocols. The deployment reflects PRO-9's commitment to protecting residents and visitors while allowing families to observe their cultural and religious traditions without incident.

The Undas period typically draws significant foot traffic as Filipinos visit burial sites to clean graves, offer prayers, and spend time with family members. Past years have seen increased police visibility to prevent opportunistic crimes and ensure public order during the crowded holiday season.
