Over 5,800 Bilibid inmates benefit from vegetable donation drive

MANILA — The Bureau of Corrections announced Sunday that the New Bilibid Prison has received a substantial donation of fresh vegetables intended to benefit its inmate population. The shipment of 144 bags of assorted vegetables, sourced from Nueva Vizcaya province, was delivered through arrangements facilitated by Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan.

According to BuCor, the donation reached more than 5,800 persons deprived of liberty currently confined at the facility. The fresh produce is expected to supplement the prison's food supplies and enhance nutritional provisions for the inmate population.

The initiative represents one of several charitable efforts aimed at improving conditions at the country's largest national penitentiary. Such donations help address the dietary needs of the large population housed at the facility, which has long faced challenges related to overcrowding and resource constraints.

The Bureau of Corrections expressed gratitude for the contribution, noting that support from private individuals and regional partners remains crucial in supplementing government resources allocated to prison operations and inmate welfare programs.
