Over 500 child labourers freed in Bengaluru crackdown

Child welfare authorities in Bengaluru have successfully rescued 529 children engaged in various forms of labour, marking a significant intervention against child exploitation in the city. The operation, which involved multiple enforcement agencies, culminated in the registration of 105 cases against employers and traffickers involved in employing minors in violation of national labour laws.

The rescued children were found working across multiple sectors and locations throughout Bengaluru, highlighting the persistent challenge of child labour in urban areas despite legal prohibitions. Officials have initiated processes to ensure the children receive appropriate rehabilitation, counselling, and educational support as they reintegrate into mainstream society.

The crackdown aligns with India's commitment to eliminating child labour under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. Authorities have intensified monitoring and surprise inspections across workplaces suspected of employing underage workers, with particular focus on informal sectors including domestic work, small manufacturing units, and street vending.

The cases registered during the operation will be pursued through appropriate legal channels. Child welfare officials have also launched awareness campaigns targeting communities and employers to discourage child labour practices and encourage reporting of suspected cases.
